With the 2015 SEMA Show right around the corner JKS has teamed up Eastern Truck & Accessories to build a backwoods exploration prepped Adventure Edition Jeep Wrangler JK. In the sea of over the top, one-of-a-kind, outrageous rigs that are continually showcased at SEMA, most of which will never see a dirt road let alone an actual trail or campground, this Jeep will be different. This Jeep will be outfitted with an assortment of practical, purpose built accessories including several brand new parts to debut at the show as well as some tried and true components that have become industry staples.
The Jeep we are using for this build started life in 2014 as most Wranglers do, in the Toledo, OH assembly plant as a 10th Anniversary Rubicon painted in the special edition anvil gray color. Outside of that it has the color matched factory hardtop, black leather interior (no red leather here) and a peppy 3.6L Pentastar backed up by the 5-speed automatic transmission, and the NP241OR 4.0:1 transfer case sending power to the Dana 44 axles. The Jeep is at Eastern Truck & Accessories' shop in Norfolk, VA getting ready to be torn down and built back up to debut at SEMA in the JKS/BDS/Zone booth #30192.
For this project we're looking to build a capable, trail prepped JK with practical styling and a bit of attitude. Extra elevation will be coming from a Jspec suspension system along with an assortment of JKS accessories to get the stance higher, however keeping the center of gravity as low as possible. We'll be using the Jspec 2.5'' dual rate coils along with ACOS Pro to dial in the ride height and bump stop positioning. A JKS sector shaft reinforcement kit will be used along with a JKS adjustable track bar and the new Flex Connect sway bar system. In place of the dinky factory control arms we’ll have J-Axis upper and lower adjustable control arms giving us the ability to correctly position the front and rear axles and set caster while improving articulation. To improve the ride quality and keep up with the increased dampening needs for charging through the open desert a precision tuned set of Fox 2.0 remote reservoir shocks will be installed along with a Fox 2.0 steering stabilizer. For tires we chose to run the brand new 37x12.50x17 Falken Wildpeak M/T. Over the last few years we've seen this new tire tested and abused on everything from KOH rigs to Ultimate Adventure and daily drivers so we know they'll perform great for us. We'll be mounting them on a set of the new bling from a tried and true name, Trail Ready beadlocks. We'll be running a set of their 17x10 Hardrock beadlock wheels to keep our tires mounted while this Jeep navigates the rocks and terrain aired down. The steering is getting upgraded using JKS’s drag link flip kit as well as 1-ton steering linkage. The factory Dana 44 axles are being beefed up using the JKS gusset kit along with a set of 4.88 gears and chromoly shafts from Yukon Axle & Gear to be bolted up to the factory electric lockers.
In keeping this Jeep up as low as possible with sufficient clearance for the suspension to articulate while fitting 37'' tires with around 3.5'' of lift we turned to our good friends at JCR Offroad for a set of their brand new flares to open up addition tire clearance and a streamlined look. The guys are JCR went the extra mile sending front and rear bumpers along with rock sliders to keep this Jeep protected out on the trail. Up front we'll have a narrow Mauler front winch bumper while in the back their popular Vanguard bumper. Mounted to the front we’ll be installing a Warn Zeon 10-S winch w/ a Factor 55 flatlink. Lighting will come in the form of Truck-lite LED headlights to outshine the factory halogens and an assortment of PIAA RF-series LED lighting including (3) roof mounted 18’’ lightbars using an N-Fab bracket, RF cubes mounted using JCR brackets, and lights on the front and rear bumpers. A VIAIR compressor system will give this Jeep the ability to air up tires and run power tools out on the trail. All of the auxiliary electronics will be run through the sPOD source system for easy wiring, mounting and control of the onboard electronics.
In place of the heavy fiberglass hard top we’re making the move to the Bestop Trektop Pro. We’re running the 2Dr version of this top on our red supercharged JK-S Jeep and love it, we’re excited to try out the 4Dr version. While the stock hood is sufficient, its got no style and heat dispersion can be an issue. We’re excited to be running one of the first production fiberglass Venom hoods from Owens Jeep Products to match what we’ve got under the hood. For more on what’s under the hood, you’ll just have to wait and see. The graphics on the Jeep will be wrapped by AG Wraps with a 2-tone tan and black with a topographic map scheme to go with the adventure edition theme. Keep an eye out for updates over the next couple weeks on the JKS Facebook and Instagram pages as well as the JKS Blog and Eastern Truck & Accessories (ETA) Facebook Page as this Jeep get overhauled for SEMA.
